About the Book

Sajal Ghosh (EFIP, EFIAP) works in corporate law. During his career in the corporate world, he has held many senior portfolios. Photography is his passion and taking time out of his busy corporate schedule, he has pursued it diligently over the years. His pursuits in photography, has enabled him to acquire coveted distinctions in this field of art. Sajal says “photography has given me a powerful lens from which to view and understand the vastness and the fragility of our many layered worlds.”

His first book, “India in Celebration”, a result of five years of extensive travelling, was published in colour in 2021. It was about the colours of fairs and festivals across India. It was well accepted by the viewers and readers including subscription from Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India for its various offices in India and abroad.

“India in Monochrome” is his second book. This book is a collection of many candid moments of life which he has framed over the years, during his journey through India. The photographs here represent the grand, the intimate, the sacred and the daily routines of life across the country. In this book, the past and the present are in constant conversation. Sajal mentions “I wanted to present photographs that would reveal many facets and perspectives of life in India.” This book contains a collage of India that gives it an entirely different look and feel. Many stories can be inferred from each of the pictorial representations of life in India today. Sajal emphasizes “I have used monochrome to highlight the intensity, contents, and contexts of the frames without the distraction of colour.” This is a journey through India and the readers and viewers can feel the essence of life in India, while they move through the pages of “India in Monochrome”.
