Lockhart Flawse has spent his life trapped in the fortress-like confines of Flawse House under the watchful (and thoroughly unpleasant) eye of his grandfather. But when he is finally cast out into the baffling world of suburbia—complete with an unwanted marriage—he quickly realizes he is hopelessly out of step with modern society.

Determined to reclaim his ancestral home, Lockhart faces two unappealing options: uncover the identity of his long-lost father to inherit the estate or eliminate an entire street of tenants through terror and blackmail. As if that weren't enough, his scheming mother-in-law has her own designs on his grandfather’s fortune and isn’t above hastening the old man’s demise herself.

With murder plots, mistaken identities, and social blunders at every turn, this darkly comic tale is Wodehouse at his most wickedly entertaining.
