All stories in this collection stem from the fact that ‘change’ is the only ‘constant’ in life. Life is always in a state of flux. Nothing is stable or permanent. 

This is an all-pervasive truth that includes our perceptions, emotions, health, relationships, our desires, our perspectives and even our personalities.

Niharika in ‘What the Axe could not Take’ is an enterprising lady who resists the wrong being done to Mother Nature but herself falls prey to dementia that leads to loss of memory and minimal movement on her part. Luckily enough, she gets the ball rolling at a time when she was fit and fine and reaps the harvest later.

The protagonist, Prateek, in ‘The Punch’, is an ambitious young man eager to soar high in life and success kowtows him. Life throws him a curveball while he was riding high after a successful stint in the U.S. and finds himself in an abysmal situation.

Again in ‘The Selfless Giant’, Manoharbabu has the wherewithal to look after his ailing son but he cannot stop the inexorable suffering that was to befall him.

All the three protagonists undergo a cathartic transformation once tragedy hard hits. They emerge, relieved of all their burdens, as persons stronger and maturer than before.
